The New Testament Testifies to the Name of YAHSHUA{The Name Which is Above Every name}
Steve Marlowe, Evangelist
What led to the arrest of the apostle Paul and his testimony to the name of Christ? The apostle Paul arrives in Jerusalem, and the other apostles receive him gladly, but many Jewish believers were informed that he taught Jews to forsake the law of Moses, which was not true. To show that it was not true, they said, “Therefore do what we tell you, We have four men who have taken a vow. Take them and be purified with them, and pay their expenses so that they may shave their heads, and that all may know that those things of which they were informed concerning you are nothing, but that you yourself also walk orderly and keep the law. But concerning the Gentiles who believe, we have written and decided that they should observe no such thing, except that they should keep themselves from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality” (Acts 21:23-25).
Despite steps being made to prove the allegations were unfounded, however, “Now when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews from Asia, seeing him in the temple, stirred up the whole crowd and laid hands on him, crying out, “Men of Israel, help! This is the man who teaches all men everywhere against the people, the law, and this place; and furthermore he also brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place.” [For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple] (Acts 21:27-29).
Paul is arrested, though, he asks the commander if he could speak to the crowd, which was granted. Paul addressed the crowd in Hebrew, and he says, “Brethren and fathers, hear my defense before you now.” And when they heard that he spoke to them in the Hebrew language, they kept all the more silent. Then he said: ‘I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, taught according to the strictness of our fathers’ law, and was zealous toward God as you all are today. I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women, as also the high priest bears me witness, and all the council of the elders, from whom I also received letters to the brethren, and went to Damascus to bring in chains even those who were there to Jerusalem to be punished. ‘Now it happened, as I journeyed and came near Damascus at about noon, suddenly a great light from heaven shone around me. And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’ So I answered, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said to me, ‘I am YAHSHUA of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting’” (Acts 22:1-8).
Paul, nor the other apostles, ever knew Him as Jesus, only YAHSHUA. When Paul heard the Lord tell him His name in Hebrew, it was spoken YAHSHUA, not Jesus. Because Paul knew that our Savior has the name which is above every name. He said so in his letter to the Philippians 2:9-11, he stated, “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of YAHSHUA every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that YAHSHUA the Messiah is LORD, to the glory of God the Father.”
The Savior has the name which is above every name.
Every language is to know this one name revealed from Heaven unaltered.
Interesting note, every language knows the expression, “Halleluyah,” which means, “Praise YAH.”
YAH literally means, “I AM.”
The meaning of the name, “YAHSHUA,” essentially means, “I AM Salvation.”
Most people know the expression of HALLELUYAH. But many do not know its literal meaning. Halleluyah means, “Praise YAH.”
In John 8:58, the Savior said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” This is an affirmation that He is YAH, and that that is His name.
Note the “I AM” is in caps in our Bible. Because Christ was telling them that He is YAH. YAH means I AM. He is telling us that His name is actually YAHSHUA, as in YAH Saves.
In Matthew 1:21, “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name YAHSHUA, for He will save His people from their sins.”
This was the name that the apostle Paul heard on the road to Damascus. It is a Hebrew name, however, it is very unique and not to be subjected to philological study because it is unprecedented, however, that being said, it is a Hebrew name, meaning, “YAH Saves,” as “Shua,” means, “salvation”, or “my help” in Hebrew.
The apostle Peter preaches to the people in Jerusalem in the name of YAHSHUA. For he testified to the name of YAHSHUA, which has the name which is above every name, “And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all” (Acts 3:16).
“Now as they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them, being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in YAHSHUA the resurrection from the dead. And they laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening” (Acts 4:1-3). The Jewish leaders heard the name which is above every name, the very name they sought to hide, even from the time of the Babylonian invasion of the kingdom of Judea. For the apostle Peter was known to preach in the name of YAHSHUA. He said, “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send YAHSHUA the Messiah, who was preached to you before, whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began” (Acts 3:19-21). There was a common Aramaic name Yeshua that sounded like YAHSHUA, and they wanted to make sure that the apostles were not calling their Rabbi YAHSHUA, because it has the name, YAH, which is above every name.
In Acts 4:5-7, “And it came to pass, on the next day, that their rulers, elders, and scribes, as well as Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the family of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, ‘By what power or by what name have you done this?’”
“Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, ‘Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of YAHSHUA the Messiah of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:8-12).
The gospel informs us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:16-18).
The New Testament is a witness to the name which is above every name, which was given to Moses in Exodus 3:14-15, “And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ‘Moreover, God said to Moses, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’” God told Moses that He was the I AM, or YAH. Therefore, there can be no other counterfeit names, like: Jesus, Iesus, Iesous, Yeshua, Joshua, or names that come to us not from God, but through some linguistic evolution.
The name which is above every name is YAH, God’s name, which was revealed to Moses (Exodus 3:14-15).
YAH was given to the Savior from before Abraham (John 8:58).
The Savior has the name which is above every name (Philippians 2:9).
There is no other name by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
One stands condemned, as before, for not believing in the name of the only begotten Son of God (John 3:18).
Halleluyah, Praise YAH, Praise YAHSHUA!
“Behold, God is my salvation,I will trust and not be afraid;
‘For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song;He also has become my salvation’” (Isaiah 12:2).
