THE DIVINE NAME THROUGH THE AGES
Rev. Steve Marlowe
The God of the Bible wants His people to know and use His name. His name is found in Genesis, as Eve proclaimed, and “... said, “I have acquired a man from YAHAWAH” (Genesis 4:1). However, there were gaps when people forgot the name of their God. 2 “And God spoke to Moses and said to him: ‘I am the YAHAWAH. 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as EL Shaddai, but by My name YAHAWAH, I was not known to them” (Exodus 6:2-3). The name of God is restored through Moses.
13 “Then Moses said to God, ‘Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?’
14 And God said to Moses, ‘HaYAH Ashar HaYAH’ (I AM WHO I AM.) And He said, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM {YAH} has sent me to you.’ 15 Moreover God said to Moses, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘YAHAWAH the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This {YAH} is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations” (Exodus 3:13-14). YAH appears around 48 times in the Bible, and yet translators cover it up. God’s name YAH was incorporated in many Israelite names. Thus we read “Adoniyah [“my Lord is YAH”] YAH is the essential name of YAHAWAH, which means, “I AM ever-present.” Adonijah (Yah is my Lord), and more examples:
Abiyah (Yah is my father)
Achiyah (Yah is my brother)
Uriyah (Yah is my light)
Malchiyah (Yah is my king)
Hodiyah (Yah is my majesty)
Toviyah (Yah is my goodness)
Jeremyah (YirmeYAH = Yah Appoints)
There are sources outside of the Bible that exist. In an ancient cave on the walls was found the name of God, some tried to make the name a testimonial to the false name Jehovah, but no, it was a testimony to the name YAHAWAH (Isreal Exploration Journal, Vol. 13, no. 1). On its walls was also found, “YAHAWAH is the God of the whole earth” (Isreal Exploration Journal, Vol. 16, no. 1). These were written in the second half of the seventh century B.C.E. In storage jars and stone vessels, inscriptions were found with God’s name YHWH showing YAHAWAH. Researchers say that when the scrolls were unrolled, the name YAHAWAH in Hebrew was found to be written on it (see Biblical Archaeology Review, March/April 1983, p. 18). “Thus some 19 documentary evidences of the Tetragrammaton in the form of YHWH testify in this regard to the reliability of the Masoretic Text; more can be expected, above all from the Arad-Archives” (Theological Dictionary of the Old Testament, Vol. 3, column 538).
How can we know if the disciples used the name YHWH?
The Jewish people stopped using the name of God around the time of the Babylonian invasion of the Kingdom of Judah. They did this to prevent the Gentiles from profaning, and dishonoring, the very revealed name of God, so they ceased saying the name YAHAWAH, and they said, “Adonai,” instead when they came across the name of God. But there is strong evidence that the high priest continued to pronounce the name “YAHAWAH,” right up to the time the second Temple was destroyed (70 AD). Hence, when YAHSHUA was on the earth, the pronunciation of the name was known, although it was not widely used.
Why is the name Jesus a false name, and how do we identify the name of salvation in Christ?
“Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation’” (Isaiah 12:2 NKJV). YAH {I AM} is the name of salvation, and the false name Jesus is devoid of the name YAH. Since YAH is the name of salvation, are Savior has this name YAH, the very name given to Him by His God and Father. And YAHSHUA said, 6 “I have revealed Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world; they were Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have followed Your word. 7 Now they have come to know that everything which You have given Me is from You; 8 for the words which You gave Me I have given to them; and they received them and truly understood that I came forth from You, and they believed that You sent Me. 9 I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but on the behalf of those whom You have given Me, because they are Yours; 10 and all things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them. 11 I am no longer going to be in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, so that they may be one just as We are. 12 While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name, which You have given Me; and I guarded them, and not one of them perished except the son of destruction, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled” (John 17:6-12 NASB). All things belong to the Father and God of our Lord and Savior YAHSHUA, and all things have been given to the Son, since before the foundation of the earth. The disciples were commanded to make disciples of all nations in Christ’s name. We, as evangelists, are to go and make disciples in His, YAHSHUA’S, name. 46 “Then He said to them, ‘Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem’” (Luke 24:46-47). And, 14“Simon has declared how God at the first visited the Gentiles to take out of them a people for His name. 15 And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written: 16 ‘After this I will return and will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will set it up; 17 So that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord {YAH}, even all the Gentiles who are called by My name, says the Lord {YAHSHUA} who does all these things” (Acts 15:14-17). 13 “For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord {YAHSHUA} shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). 8 “Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, ‘Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: 9 If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, 10 let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of YAHSHUA Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. 11 This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ 12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:8-12). The Apostle Peter could not have possibly given testimony to the name Jesus, a name that has only existed since the 17th century, therefore, he rightly gave testimony to the name that has the name {YAH} which is above every name YAHSHUA.
19 “Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: ‘The Lord knows those who are His,’ and, ‘Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity” (2 Timothy 2:19). His name is YAHSHUA! Halleluyah! Praise YAH! Praise YAHSHUA! It is not praise Jah, nor is it praise ia. In Chapter 19 verses 1-6 in Revelation, John writes, “After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Halleluyah! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God! 2 For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her.” 3 Again they said, “Halleluyah! Her smoke rises up forever and ever!” 4 And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sat on the throne, saying, “Amen! Halleluyah!” 5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying, “Praise our God, all you, His servants, and those who fear Him, both small and great! 6 And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Halleluyah! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!’”
There will be false teachers among you teaching falsehood, and preaching in another name not of God [namely the false name of Jesus].
The name Jesus comes from Iesus, and Iesus comes from Iesous, and Iesous is a transliteration of Yeshua, and yet there is only one name given under heaven by which we must be saved! The Apostle Peter warns us all, “But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber” (2 Peter 2:1-3). If you change the revealed name of the Savior, YAHSHUA, you deny Him and the true name given to Him by the Father!
