DISCOVERING THE NAME OF YAHSHUA IN THE BIBLE

Presented by Steve Marlowe, Evangelist

Names for God most likely seen in the Bible, that is in most versions of the Bible, are Jehovah and Jesus, and yet these names have only existed since the 17th century. If God did not reveal these names, then are these names illegitimate, in other words, would God recognize one who called upon Him by names created by man due to linguistic proclivities, and therefore not authorized, or revealed, by Him? According to research, both these names are erroneous, and God never revealed these names to His people. Does the Bible reveal the true name of God despite linguistic changes and alterations causing false names, which were never authorized by God? Surprisingly, we can find the true name of God as authorized and revealed by Him, and as testified to by the prophets and apostles as found in the Bible. From the Bible, we can prove the Savior’s name is in reality the only revealed name YAHSHUA. The name Jesus was never recognized by God as the name of the Savior, nor is the name of Jehovah God’s authorized name. With the guidance of the Bible, and by the tools needed, such as Strong’s Dictionary of Bible Words, and Strong’s Concordance of the Bible to aid in our search the truth will be revealed. But despite all efforts to show the truth, most people will deny the truth for their traditions.

Few people take the warning:

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).

When we do things our own way, we become those who practice lawlessness, as YAHSHUA warned us as found in the Gospel of Matthew 7:21-23,

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven,

but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name,

cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’

And then I will declare to them,

‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”

It is the will of the Father that we not reject the one name revealed from Heaven!

How did the name of Jesus take the place of the revealed name from heaven, YAHSHUA?

We start with the letter “J”, which comes to the English language with its present “juh” sound from the influence of the French language. The letter “J”, the tenth letter of the English alphabet which formerly a variant of the letter “I”, became in the 17th century a consonant only (see the letter J “WEBSTER’S NEW WORLD COLLEGE DICTIONARY, FIFTH EDITION, 2014 Houghton Harcourt Publishing co., p. 775). Prior to the 17th century, the name of Jesus was spelled Iesus. In the Greek language, it was spelled Iesous.

The second letter, “e”, came about as the Medieval Jewish scholars, called Massoretes, slyly, deceptively, changed the vowel points from the “ah” sound to the “eh” sound, so the readers in the synagogues would not inadvertently attempt to pronounce the sacred name of God, (see Strong’s No. 3050, YAH). The reader would read Hebrew word after Hebrew word, which carried no vowels, and when he came upon the name of God, Yod, Hey, Wow, Hey, (YHWH found in most English Bibles as LORD), would attempt to pronounce it forgetting that he was to say “Adonai” instead (Adonai is Hebrew for Lord). So the Rabbis would place vowels from other Hebrew words such as ELOHIM (causing YEHOVIH, see Strong’s No. 3069), or ELOAH (causing YEHOVAH, or Jehovah, see Strong’s No. 3068). Jehovah, or Yehovah, or Yehovih, are not the revealed names of God, but are the result of adding vowels from other words to the consonants of God name causing a concoction, a hybrid name never revealed by God.

The third letter “s” came about due to the lack of the “sh” sound in either Latin or Greek languages. The “s” sound was brought over to produce the third letter of “Jesus.”

The “us” on the end of the name Jesus, called the suffix, is the Greek nominative signaling a masculine/singular. Not only is the revealed name of our Savior YAHSHUA drastically changed to an entirely different name, but our Messiah is given the Greek title of “Christ,” which is originally Christos, and which is what Greek soldiers would do to their leather armor by rubbing oil onto the leather. If we translate the Hebrew title for “Messiah,” we should properly translate it in English as “Anointed.”

You hold to a name, Jesus, which is of man’s own making, and which denies the revelation of God.

YAHSHUA said, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written:

‘This people honors Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men
’” (Mark 7:6-7).

Strong’s Dictionary of Bible Words clearly demonstrates that the Savior’s revealed name is revealed in Hebrew.  Indeed, the Savior revealed His name in Hebrew to Saul, who we now know as the apostle Paul, who gave this testimony to king Agrippa, and we must remember that the name of Jesus is Latin, not Hebrew, for we read in Acts 26:12-16, “While thus occupied, as I journeyed to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests, at midday, O king, along the road I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining around me and those who journeyed with me. And when we all had fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads. ’So I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said, ‘I am YAHSHUA, whom you are persecuting. But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you.’”

Because the apostle Paul heard the name of the Savior in Hebrew, he recognized “the name which is above every name,” the very name of YAH! And so he gives this testimony, “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of YAHSHUA every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that YAHSHUA the Messiah is LORD, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11). The Hebrew name YAHSHUA must be spoken in every language as revealed from the God and Father of our Lord YAHSHUA intact and unchanged!

Reliable scholars, priests, pastors, and teachers recognize that the first syllable of our Savior’s Name should be pronounced as “YAH,” not “Jeh.” Even the common Hebrew expression, “Halleluyah” (Praise YAH) proves this to be true. As revealed by the angel to Joseph, and the angel said, “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name YAHSHUA, for He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). For indeed, the name of YAHSHUA means, “YAH Saves.”

The apostle Peter gave testimony to this one revealed name [YAHSHUA] while being filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 4:8), for he said, “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).  The linguistics and traditions of man have produced many names, Jesus, Iesus, Iesous, Isa, Hey-zeus, etc., but for those who follow Him in Spirit and Truth, there can only be one name, the one being revealed from heaven the very name of YAHSHUA.

Now it is the testimony of the Gospel that our salvation depends on the Person and the name of our Savior. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.  He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:16-18). If you reject the one name revealed from heaven, you will stand condemned. Consider carefully not to reject the name of salvation, the name of YAHSHUA, for there is no other name given among men by which we must be saved!

May YAHSHUA bless you and keep you;
May YAHSHUA make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
May YAHSHUA lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you Shalom, the peace that surpasses understanding.
